Remanufactured Datsun 1600 SP311 1.6L R16 L4 Engine
This week we have a classic to rebuild at the Machine Shop.
Datsun Roadster 1600 Engine.
On the menu: Teardown, Inspection, Bore and Hone the block, Valve job on the cylinder head, plus new engine parts installed.
Here is the engine before we tear it apart and inspect it.
We dig in, the block and head are in good condition, so we proceed with the machine services.
Machine services on the engine block- Clean, Bore & Hone, and clean again.
It will get Decked later.
Inspection of the cylinder head reveals a couple of bent valves, we order new ones and proceed with the Valve Job. We give the head a good scrub, grind the valves, cut the seats, install new brass guides, and resurface it.
I snapped a few pictures of the new parts for the Datsun, there isn’t a ready made kit for these older models. I didn’t get photos of all the parts unfortunately.
Engine block gets a Decked and painted. It will mate up nicely with the cylinder head.
A couple shots of the cylinder head assembly.
Short Block assembly has started, the cylinder head is almost ready too.
The cylinder head and the block are ready, it’s time to build the Long Block.
This engine is a beauty. It was in production from 1965 to 1970.
Long block is fully assembled and looking good.
Extra parts are installed and it is ready for pick up.
