Chrysler Dodge 251 Straight-6 Flathead Spitfire Engine Rebuild
Vintage Chrysler 251 engine in for a complete rebuild. A cast iron beast L-head six cylinder valve in block model.
This Straight-6 250.6 4.1L engine model is from 1942-1960 Chrysler Dodge with 25 inch block and head. Fits various models of 6 cylinder Truck “L” head and Industrial applications. Block number on engine is 1138129.

OEM Bore: 3.4375″ / 3 7/16″
Lot’s of elbow grease for this engine. On the Machine Service agenda: Bore, Hone, Deck, recondition Crank, Cam, and Conrods.

Inspection didn’t reveal any block or head issues, which is good news. Time to hot tank these parts and get them cleaned up. Crank and Cam need a grind and polish. Gotta recondition the connecting rods and clean up the tubing and other parts.
MACHINE SHOP SERVICES
Cylinder Head Repair
Not much to this cast iron L-head, all the goodies and moving parts are in the block. We clean it up, get all the nooks and crannies, and seal it with a coat of paint. It’s ready for the resurfacing machine to give it a nice smooth finish. Since we are decking the block the mating surface is going to be a great fit.

We are checking all the bolts for straightness, verifying valve seat integrity, and all ports. New engine parts ordered in correct sizes, soon we will be assembling.
Short Block Assembly
Once the block work is complete, we give it a few coats of paint to seal it. Time to install the valves, springs, reconditioned crankshaft, camshaft and connecting rods, bearings, timing set, and little extras. New pistons and rings.
This Spitfire is coming together nicely. Ready to add the last elements, like the new Oil Strainer and tubing. Then we can bolt on the oil pan and the cylinder head.
