Machine work plan:
Inspection, Teardown, and Cleaning.
Block Work: Bore, Hone, and Deck the engine block.
Head Work: Valve Job includes: Pressure test, Resurface, Grind valves, Cut 3-angle valve seats, New Exhaust guide inserts and valve stem seals. Clean, paint, and assemble. Any missing, damaged, or broken parts will be replaced.
Machine Work- Recondition Crankshaft, Camshaft, and Connecting Rods.
Order New Engine parts; Pistons, Rings, Bearings, Timing, Gaskets, Oil pump, etc.
Last step, assembly!
Couple Before shots for comparison. The After’s look way better! 🙂
We begin by tearing the engine down, looking for any obvious signs of damage. Inspecting all the components to make sure it all looks good. Then all the parts go into the hot tank for the initial clean to remove all the grime, gunk, and grease. Now we can really see what we are working on.
MACHINE SERVICES
7M-GE VALVE JOB
Sometimes I miss the Valve Job progression. This is one of those times. By the time I got shots, the head was already done, ready to be put on the block. It looks good on the block as you will see. Here is what we did. Valve Job: Pressure test, Resurfaced to a nice flat surface to mate up with the block. Grind valves, Cut 3-angle valve seats, Lap valves, Install new exhaust guide inserts, install new valve stem seals, clean, paint, and assemble.
BLOCK WORK
Remanufacturing the block consists of Bore, Hone and Decking it, readying it for the rebuild. Cylinders are measured to determine current size, checked for ridges, scoring, gouges, and general condition. Once it’s bored, we hone cylinders leaving the proper crosshatch. Clean in hot tank to remove any metal debris. Deck the block surface. Last we put a coat of primer, then a few coats of paint.
TOYOTA 3.0 7MGE ASSEMBLY
New engine parts for the rebuild: Pistons, Rings, Bearings, Gaskets, Freeze plugs, Timing Set, and Oil pump. Block work is finished. Valve Job is finished. Connecting Rods, Crank and Cam reconditioned-reground and polished. We’ve got all the ingredients to start building the Short Block.
Short Block Components
7M-GE Bottom End
Now that the block work is complete, it’s cleaned and painted, it time to start installing the parts and components. Starting with freeze plugs/expansion plugs, new cam bearings and reground cam. Add in Crank and main bearings. Connecting rods and pistons, then the timing set. This beast is coming together.
Toyota 7MGE Long Block Assembly
Now that the Short Block is done, we can bolt on the cylinder head and add the remaining components.
Remanufactured Toyota 3.0 7M Long Block Assembly
Final Assembly Toyota 7M
Adding timing components and cover. Last step is to add valve cover, oil pan, water pump, and external goodies.
