Chevy 265 Before Rebuild
Chevy 265 Grunge
Now we tear it apart, looking at current condition of all the parts. This is just the initial inspection. Since it is so dirty, we have to hot tank it, melt off that grease, and scrub it, so we can really see the condition. This is where we decide if any of the components need extra work or attention.
After the block is cleaned, we see the cylinders have deep ridges in them. These are too deep, you cannot bore and hone them. They are over 40 thousandths, so we need to install new cylinder sleeves. We contact the customer so he can take a look and give the OK. This is common with these older blocks.

265 VALVE JOB
Basic Valve Job includes: Pressure test, Magnaflux for cracks, Resurfaced to a nice flat surface to mate up with the block. Grind valves, Cut 3-angle valve seats, Lap valves, Install new exhaust guide inserts, install new valve stem seals, clean, paint, and assemble. Any missing, damaged, or broken parts are replaced.
These heads needed new Exhaust Seats installed, years of unleaded fuel ate them up.
BLOCK WORK – Chevy 265
Customer gave the OK, to move forward with putting in New Cylinder Sleeves. We bore bore out each cylinder, removing the old and making room for the new sleeve. After, we Hone the cylinder finishing with the proper crosshatch. Clean in hot tank again to remove any metal residue. Deck the block surface so the head mates up nicely. Last we put a coat of primer, then a few coats of paint.
Now that all the sleeves are installed, it’s time to Deck the block. Then we clean it again, put on a coat of primer, then final paint.
CHEVY 265 ENGINE ASSEMBLY
