Toyota Land Cruiser FJ62 4.0 Inline-6 Engine Rebuild Remanufacture

Straight 6 Toyota FJ62 Engine Rebuild.

Classic Toyota FJ62 engine brought in for a complete rebuild.
Model: 88-90 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ62 4.0L Straight-6 OHV 12V.

I bet this 89′ Cruiser saw a lot of action in the day, more to come once the rebuild is complete.
I’m picturing beaches, mountains, day trips, just about any adventure.

First, an Inspection, Teardown, and Cleaning lets us know if there is any damage.
Block Work: Bore, Hone, and Deck the engine block. Remanufacture to its glory.
Head Work: Valve Job includes Resurface, Grind valves, Cut 3-angle valve seats, New Exhaust guides and valve stem seals. Clean, paint, and assemble. Any missing, damaged, or broken parts will be replaced.
Machine Work- Recondition Crankshaft, Camshaft, and Connecting Rods.

Order New Engine Rebuild Kit in correct sizes.

MACHINE SERVICES

Teardown & Inspection

We teardown the components, inspect, scrub, and hot tank so we see what we have to work on. It was during this phase that we found out one of the connecting rods was damaged. It looks like it melted and broke, the piston was also marred. This rebuild is getting a replacement conrod.

Block Work

Remanufacturing the engine block takes a few steps. Bore and Hone the cylinders leaving a good finish with proper crosshatch. Clean in hot tank to remove any particulates. Deck the block surface so the head mates up nicely. Last we put a coat of primer, then a few coats of paint.

FJ62 Cylinder Head Valve Job

I missed most of the work shots, but I got it completed before it went onto the block.

What did we do?
Pressure Tested, Resurfaced, Grind valves, Cut 3-angle valve seats, Lapped valves, Cleaned, Painted, and Assembled the head.

ASSEMBLY

Pistons, Rings, Bearings, Gaskets, Freeze plugs, Timing Set, Oil pump, and remanufactured connecting rod have been ordered and delivered. Block work is completed. Valve Job is complete. Connecting Rods, Crank and Cam reconditioning is finished. The guys are ready to start building the Short Block.

Long Block Assembly

Bolting on the Cylinder Head, adding Timing set, and installing the camshaft to complete the Long Block. Extra gaskets and oil pump go with the customer for installation.
